Runtime: 136 min

New Caledonia in 1988, group FLNKS abducted two dozen police officers and demanded independence from France. Since this happened just before the second round of presidential elections in France, the politicians decided to terminate the negotiations and resolve the hostage crisis with spectacular action of elite military and police units, in order to gain additional political points, without regard to risk to the lives of hostages. In the action 19 kidnappers were killed and later autopsy showed that the majority were executed at close range, after being taken prisoner.

Few months after this event, an agreement was reached to start the process towards the independence of New Caledonia (which is still going on), it also granted amnesty to all participants in the kidnapping and stopped any further investigation into the death of four gendarmes and 19 fighters for independence. New Caledonian soils contain about quarter of the world’s nickel resources. Based on actual events.
