Margin Call (2011)
Director: J.C. Chandor
Actors: Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci
Runtime: 107 min
At the beginning of the global economic crisis, a young analyst uses a computer simulation to predict the imminent fall of the market. The movie covers a period of 24h during which senior executives decide to sell all the toxic assets before the market can react. It explores the nature of capitalism, the logic of capitalism, the impact capitalism has on human relations, etc. Although the film does not depict any real Wall Street firm or corporate action during the 2008 financial crisis, Goldman Sachs similarly moved early to hedge and reduce its position in mortgage-backed securities, at the urging of two employees.
