Taxi To The Dark Side (2007)
Director: Alex Gibney
Runtime: 106 min
After 9/11, the U.S. administration and the CIA decided that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to persons who are suspected of having links with terrorism. This film examines the brutal psychological molestation and physical torture of detainees in U.S. military prisons at Bagram (Afghanistan), Abu Ghraib (Iraq) and Guantanamo Bay (Cuba). This documentary was shot within the wave of liberal propaganda against the Bush administration (in 2006, after he won his second term), so it’s no surprise that it ends with the typical liberal lamentation over “the rule of law”, but if you ignore it and focus on the newspeak that these bloodthirsty murderers invented in order to dehumanize their victims, see how politicians and generals intimidate the public and collect political points by advocating strong-arm policy, and how, when photos of torture are leaked, they put ordinary soldiers on trial and not even a single officer.
