Everything Is Illuminated (2005)
Director: Liev Schreiber
Actors: Elijah Wood, Eugene Hutz, Boris Leskin
Runtime: 106 min
A young Jewish American decides to travel to Ukraine to find out more about his grandfather, one of the very few from his village who survived the Holocaust and saw the end of the war. The journey he undertakes is best described as amazing, partly because of the comic situations, partly because of the beautiful scenery, and partly because of the moving truth that awaits at the end of the path. This unusual film manages to stir strong emotions and to raise the question about the importance of the historical context for a proper understanding of the World we live in.
